Here’s the bottom line: we must constantly improve our communication. It is far better to over- communicate than to under-communicate. Why? Because if you know what I’m thinking, where I’m going and perhaps what’s next, then you’ll be better prepared to react, to meet, and maybe we can get things done together. When the founders [Rosa Edith Olivares, Edith Molina, and myself] first put our sign out, “now open for business” in Beaverton, Oregon on Oct 12, 2004 we honestly didn’t know where this thing would go, we just had ideas, and it was the first time venturing out as entrepreneurs. We provided consulting services with several local organizations, helped people advance their careers along the way, and worked with some incredible talent to produce results. Unfortunately, we had to temporarily close the doors when I was scheduled to deploy to Iraq with my reserve unit in 2007, and while I was reassigned to a stateside mission, we never stopped, not even for one nanosecond, to dream, envision the possibilities, and keep pressing forward.
Post-Maryland: Upon returning to Oregon we launched: BilingualHire. Our good friend David Stewart helped get us a beautiful site, and along the way learned through feedback (online and offline) that we needed to do a better job of improving our communication, quickly and seemlessly. Hence, the title. So here we are, we have chosen to use WordPress to communicate with you. Why? First off, I don’t know code. Second, it was getting expensive. Third, and more importantly, Edith was urging me to keep us all informed.
So here we are: To advise, share ideas, and be helpful. To bring us closer to reaching our goals. To help organizations in whatever way we can so that they can improve in finding bilingual talent and help this talent progress in the quest for the “perfect job.” To make sense of our career options. And my favorite, to share stories of achievement, overcoming adversity and great challenges. We will begin, first and foremost, with improving our communication with each of you. To ensure we strive for this we have integrated and combined our site and our blog. It’s the first step in ensuring two-way communication.
Instant Communication: To speak with me directly, feel free to call me at the home office (503) 512-8431, or on Twitter to know my situation (in case I don’t answer the phone). Or on Facebook (I admit I need help here). But just so we’re clear where my attention, focus and drive is during the weekdays for the next few months: Legislative Committee Service, Oregon State Legislature at the Oregon State Capitol. Understand, that this is a short-term 6-month assignment ending when the 2009-2011 Governor’s budget is approved.
Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get some work done.
